1. Try something new.
Now is the perfect time to do something you’ve always wanted to do but never tried. Maybe you’ve always yearned to travel to Ireland but your ex always insisted on using your vacation days to visit family out of state every year. Book that trip! And if traveling is out of your price range, don’t worry because there are plenty of other options. Maybe you’ll want to sign up for a pasta-making class or learn how to make pottery. The world is your oyster and there’s nothing holding you back anymore.
2. Practice self-care.
Everyone practices self-care a little differently. Now is an important time to look after yourself and take the time out of your schedule to do what makes you feel good. If you feel happiest reading a book in a warm bubble bath with candles, go for it. If you prefer, a trip to the yoga studio or an early morning jog, get out there. Or maybe your definition of self care is making your favorite meal for dinner and eating it on the sofa while you watch your favorite movie. Make it happen! Whatever self-care means to you, do it regularly. You deserve it!
3. Develop a strong relationship with your therapist.
Post-divorce introspection is inevitable, so make it productive and healthy. A therapist can help you process your feelings in the right way. Therapists can help you avoid falling into unhealthy thought patterns or avoid letting your doubts overcome you.
4. Spring cleaning.
Even if it’s actually summer, fall, or winter outside, post-divorce is an emotional rebirth and an emotional spring. With that should come a spring cleaning. It’s time to say goodbye to the things — both physical objects and ideas — that won’t serve you in your new life. Whether that means ditching your old dining table for something fresher and newer that isn’t laden with so many memories, or letting go of the person your ex made you feel like you needed to be. Spring cleaning can help you feel lighter and ready to thrive.
